Zhongmei Guangyuan Power Plant Commissioned, Kedi Zhongwei Testing Equipment Delivered

Zhongmei Guangyuan Power Plant Commissioned, Kedi Zhongwei Testing Equipment Delivered
06 Aug-2026

Introduction: On June 25, 2026, the No.1 unit of the Zhongmei Guangyuan Coal-Fired Power Project successfully completed its 168-hour full-load trial operation and officially entered commercial service. This marks the first coal-fired unit commissioned in Sichuan Province during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period and the province's only "dual-linkage" demonstration project reported to the national government. During the construction of this national key energy project, Wuhan Kedi Zhongwei Electric Co., Ltd. supplied a batch of transformer testing instruments to the project's core equipment supplier – TBEA Co., Ltd. – comprehensively serving the installation, commissioning, and handover testing of the project's main transformers, contributing professional testing support to the successful commissioning of the unit.

1. Zhongmei Guangyuan: Sichuan's First Commissioned Coal Power Benchmark of the "15th Five-Year Plan"

The Zhongmei Guangyuan Coal-Fired Power Project is located in Qingjiang Village, Baolun Town, Lizhou District, Guangyuan City, Sichuan Province. Construction commenced on September 28, 2024. The project features two 1,000MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired generating units with simultaneous construction of high-efficiency flue gas desulfurization, denitrification, and dust removal facilities. The total project investment is RMB 7.479 billion , with China Energy Engineering Group Southwest Electric Power Design Institute leading the EPC general contracting.

This project is the first newly approved coal power project in Sichuan Province since the "13th Five-Year Plan" and the province's only "dual-linkage" demonstration project reported to the national government. The units feature the province's deepest peak-shaving capability, capable of operating at 20% rated load , effectively adapting to flexible grid dispatch requirements. Upon full completion, the project is expected to generate over 9 billion kWh annually, with an annual output value of approximately RMB 3.571 billion, significantly enhancing power supply capacity in northeastern Sichuan and alleviating local power shortages.

Since groundbreaking, the project has progressed rapidly: In September 2025, three key milestones were achieved simultaneously – the topping out of the No.1 cooling tower shell, the topping out of the chimney outer cylinder, and the placement of the No.2 turbine deck – marking the project's transition into the equipment installation phase. On February 13, 2026, the auxiliary power supply was successfully energized. On June 11, 2026, the No.1 unit achieved its first successful grid connection, delivering its "first kilowatt-hour" to the grid. On June 25, 2026 , the No.1 unit officially entered commercial operation. Currently, the No.2 unit has fully entered the commissioning phase and is expected to commence operation by the end of September 2026. The project's smart construction system was also honored by the China Electric Power Construction Association as a "2025 Five-Star Typical Case of Smart Construction Sites for Power Construction."

2. TBEA: Core Supplier of Main Transformers

As one of the project's core equipment items, the main transformers are supplied by TBEA Co., Ltd. , a leading enterprise in China's power transmission and transformation equipment manufacturing sector.

In May 2024, TBEA won the bid for the main transformer procurement of the Zhongmei Guangyuan Coal-Fired Power Project with a bid value of RMB 77.76 million . In the same month, TBEA also won the bid for the project's high-voltage auxiliary transformer procurement at RMB 12.9 million . Additionally, TBEA secured the bid for the start-up/standby transformer procurement.

TBEA Co., Ltd. (Stock Code: 600089) is a global leader in the transformer industry, with the capability to research, develop, and manufacture power transformers with single-unit capacity of 1,000,000 kVA and voltage class up to 1000kV and below. In the 2026 State Grid power transmission and transformation project transformer procurement, TBEA Xinjiang Transformer Factory ranked among the top with 5 packages totaling RMB 228.9 million; TBEA Shenyang Transformer Group followed with 3 packages totaling RMB 172.67 million. TBEA's three core subsidiaries collectively secured approximately RMB 3.846 billion, accounting for 23.2% of the total transformer procurement amount. With leading technical capabilities and reliable product quality, TBEA has become a key partner of State Grid, China Southern Power Grid, and other core players in the power industry.

3. Testing Equipment: The Final Quality Check for Transformer Installation

Once the main transformers are positioned, the next step is handover testing – the final quality checkpoint after equipment installation is complete. In transformer handover testing, multiple tests are mandatory: DC resistance measurement to verify winding joint welding quality and tap changer contact condition; turns ratio measurement to confirm transformer ratio and connection group meet design requirements; winding deformation testing to detect whether winding displacement or deformation occurred during transportation and installation; and insulation resistance measurement to assess the overall insulation condition of the transformer.

The testing equipment supplied by Kedi Zhongwei for this project covers all of the above requirements:

DC Resistance Tester: Used to accurately measure transformer winding DC resistance, detecting winding joint welding quality and tap changer contact condition. Test current up to 20A, measurement range 1μΩ–2kΩ, accuracy Class 0.2.

Automatic Turns Ratio Tester: Used to measure transformer turns ratio and automatically determine connection group (all 1–12 point groups), measurement range 1–10000, accuracy Class 0.2. Supports single-phase transformers, three-phase transformers (including Z-type connections), voltage transformers, and other test object types.

Transformer Winding Deformation Tester: Uses the frequency response method to detect winding deformation, with output frequency range of 1k–2MHz. It can perform sweep frequency impedance analysis on transformer windings, providing diagnostic basis for safe transformer operation.

Intelligent Dual-Display Insulation Resistance Tester: Output voltage 500–10000V, ranges 5000V/0–200GΩ and 10000V/0–400GΩ. Used to measure transformer winding insulation resistance and absorption ratio, comprehensively evaluating insulation condition.

These testing instruments played a critical role throughout the main transformer arrival inspection, installation and commissioning, and handover testing phases, ensuring that every transformer passed rigorous testing before being put into operation.

4. From Manufacturing to Testing: A Complete Chain of Quality Assurance for Transformer Commissioning

From transformer manufacturing at TBEA, to on-site installation and positioning at Zhongmei Guangyuan, to handover testing using Kedi Zhongwei's testing equipment – this chain forms a complete quality control loop for power equipment from factory delivery to operational commissioning.

For TBEA, reliable testing equipment is an important guarantee for ensuring the quality control of the transformers it supplies and the smooth progress of on-site handover and acceptance. For Kedi Zhongwei, being able to provide testing equipment for the Zhongmei Guangyuan project – a national key energy demonstration project – is a strong testament to the company's product quality. As a professional manufacturer of power testing equipment, Kedi Zhongwei is becoming an indispensable link in this industry chain.
